Maquoketa, Ia., Dec. 28--James S. Benadom passed away Dec. 24, 1916, aged 72 years, 8 months and 22 days, after several years of suffering, being born in Ohio, April 2d, 1845.

Mr. Benadom, better known as "Candy Jim", came to Maquoketa from Anamosa about 27 years ago, and started a pop-corn and home-made candy stand on Krumviede's corner, and was prosperous from the start. He built a nice block next to the Palmer garage, owned his own home, and was in reasonably good circumstances from the united efforts of himself and wife, who pulled together in the choice candy, pop-corn and ice cream business until his health failed about two years ago, when they retired from business by moving in the cottage in the Second ward.

The funeral was held at the home at 2 o'clock Wednesday, Rev. Boomershine officiating. Interment at Mt. Hope cemetery mausoleum. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his loss: Elmer and Carsen of this city, Clarence E., of Galt, Wash.; Mrs. Nettie M. Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; also three brothers, J. W. Benadom of Denver, Col.; and Al W. of Anamosa.
