page 1Dubuque, Iowa, Dec. 18--Rev. M. W. McCarthy, curate of St. Joseph's sanitarium, passed to his reward Saturday morning at 6 o'clock. He died suddenly his death being entirely unexpected. However, he was slightly ill during the past few days.
The deceased was born in Jackson county in 1859. His father was a pioneer resident of Jackson county and was also the proprietor of the Twelve-mile house, near Garryowen. He is survived by his mother and one brother, Eugene, who is the present proprietor of the Twelve-mile house.
Reverend McCarthy was educated in the local schools and was a graduate of Dubuque college, formerly St. Joseph's college. He spent two years in the theological seminaries of France and later attended the seminary located at Montreal, Canada, for two years. He was ordained to the priesthood by the late Archbishop Hennessey in 1885.
