Bellevue, Iowa, Dec. 13--Monday morning at the hospital in La Porte, Indiana, the spirit of William Edward White took its flight, after a losing fight with black erysipelas following an accident which befell him while working at his trade, a carpenter, on a school house the middle of September. He first got some plastering in his right eye which caused him considerable trouble, but he did not give up work until a week later when a scaffolding broke and one of the boards struck the same eye. They sent word at that time to his brother and sisters here and the two sisters left immediately for his home. It was soon known he must loose the eye if he lived, but the erysipelas had set in and they feared to operate until that would subside. Everything was done that could be done, the sisters both stayed for several weeks then Georgiana came home a week ago. It was thought best to remove him from his home to the hospital and Etta came home and all week the relatives have hoped against hope that it might be given him strength to win out. He was delirious almost all the time. It had been the intention to bring the body here for burial and the brother Bert on the afternoon train to accompany the widow and body here, but on arriving there it was decided not to do so and the sisters left on the early train Tuesday morning to attend the funeral. Will was born near Galena and was 36 years, 4 months and 3 days at the time of his death. He came to Bellevue with his parents when 5 years of age and grew to manhood here. At the time of the Spanish American war he enlisted with Troop A. 13th cavalry, U.S.A. and served three years and spent 18 months in the Phillipines. He was married to Miss Fannie Hill at St. Joseph, Michigan, 9 years ago last spring, who with four little children survive. Besides his two sisters and brothers here he has two brothers in the west and two sisters here. The sympathy of his friends of his younger years goes out to the young wife and little ones and to the other relatives.
