Maquoketa, Iowa, Oct. 25--The funeral of Stephen D. Walker, one of Jackson county's pioneers and highly respected residents, who died Sunday morning after many months of illness, was held yesterday afternoon at 1:30 from the home, Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiating. Interment was made in Buckhorn cemetery.

Mr. Walker was born Dec. 8, 1844, in Russia, Herkimer county, N.Y. He came to Iowa in 1853.

Feb. 28, 1872, he was married to Miss Julia Adelaide Atherton. Rev. John Tilly, at that time the Baptist pastor of this city, performed the ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. Walker spent the early years of their married life on the Walker farm and thirty years ago they moved to town and Mr. Walker followed the carpenter trade for many years.

One son was born to them, A. M. Walker, who is located at Waterloo, Iowa.

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife and son, one brother, E. N., of this vicinity, and sisters, Mrs. Francis Niles, who has resided in the Walker home; Mrs. Jennie M. French of Everett, Wash.; niece, Mrs. Robert Fleming of Des Moines.
