Maquoketa, Ia. Oct. 14--Mrs. Susan Griffin whose body arrived Thursday morning, accompanied by her grandson, Harry, was laid to rest Thursday afternoon in Mt. Hope cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Morgan at the home of the niece, Mrs. E. D. Hansen at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon.

"Auntie" Griffin left here about ten days before for the east. Her grandson Harry and family had just moved from Joliet, to New York City and while they were getting located in their new home she came here for a visit with her niece, Mrs. E. D. Hansen. She was taken ill while here and when she recovered sufficiently to make the trip she accompanied by a nurse, journeyed to the home of her grandson, where she passed away on Tuesday.

Susan Knox was born in Queensbury, Warren county, N.Y. October 26, 1832. She was a direct descendant of General Knox of Revolutionary fame.

In 1850 she was married to John R. Griffin, also a native of New York. Mr. Griffin came to Iowa in 1846 and to Maquoketa when there were only a few shanties here and engaged in the produce business. The older residents will remember him as county recorder in the early days.

Mr. and Mrs. Griffin were the parents of two children, Ida E. who passed away many years ago and Charles E. of Cumberland, Wis. Mr. Griffin passed away in 1890 and since his death Mrs. Griffin has lived the greater part of the time with her grandson Harry.

"Auntie" Griffin was loved by all who knew her.
