Preston, Ia., Nov. 3--George William Bartlette passed away at his home near this city Friday, Oct. 27, 1916, and in his passing Preston mourns the loss of another noble man. Mr. Bartlette counted his joys among the environs of his home, and enumerated his greatest pleasures when in companionship with his family. These sterling characteristics, cherished and cultivated in his family circle, endeared him to a wide circle who were proud to call him friend. For several years he has been in poor health, but has not been confined to his bed till a few months back. With brave Christian fortitude he bore his sufferings, hoping that he might be spared to his loved ones, yet ready to answer the final summons when called. George Bartlette was born in Boxham, Oxfordshire, England, September 28, 1843, and departed this life Oct. 27, 1916, being therefore 73 years and 29 days of age. During the year 1865 he came to America with his parents and settled on a farm near Preston, and on March 3, 1871, was united in marriage to Miss Anna Coleman, to which happy union four children were born. Early in life he was baptized into and confirmed into the faith of the church of England, in which faith he was faithful to the time of his departure. He leaves to mourn his death, the wife with whom he toiled hand in hand for nearly forty-five years, one daughter and three sons, Mrs. Gertrude Brown of Glen, Calif., William Bartlette of Miles, Iowa, George Bartlette of Preston, Iowa, and Harry Bartlette of Davenport, Iowa; one brother, Thos Bartlette of Vail, Iowa and one sister, Mrs. Mary Martin of Preston, Iowa, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Interment was made in the Preston cemetery, Rev. C. E. Waudby officiating.
