Maquoketa, Iowa, Aug. 23--Rev. John White Said was called to his reward Monday afternoon at five o'clock, at his home near Iron Hill, after living an upright Christian life, aged 74 years, 10 months and 18 days.

He was born near where he died which makes him among Jackson county's oldest pioneers. Mr. Said's life was fraught with good and in the earlier pioneer days he put forth his best efforts in trying to upbuild mankind, holding many meetings in log houses, where his influence was felt. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. His wife preceded him eight years ago.

The funeral will be held at the Iron Hill church Thursday at 11 o'clock.

Interment at East Iron Hill cemetery. He leaves two sons, Eli and Walter, both at home, to mourn his loss and three daughters, Mary Catherine Vaughn of Oskaloosa, Ia., Florence May Babbliz of Alberta, Canada, Leona Francelia Millie of Maquoketa, Ia.
