Maquoketa, Ia. Aug. 3--After a lingering illness of several months, Mrs. Mary Frank passed peacefully away at her home on South Second street at 10:30 o'clock Saturday night. For the past few years Mrs. Frank had been in poor health, and the kind hands of relatives and friends together with skillful medical attention only served to aid in staying the final call. Mrs. Frank was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Pence, who were among the earliest pioneers of Jackson county. She had spent the greater portion of her life in this vicinity and always enjoyed the highest respect of the community in which she lived.

Mary Parmelia Pence was born in Monmouth township, Jackson county, May 26th, 1841, the daughter of A. W. Pence and Christina Pence of the early pioneer days of the county.

She was united in marriage to Jacob N. Frank on April 11, 1858, and has since that time resided in this county, excepting about four years when she lived in Wyoming, Jones county, from which place she came to this city where she has ever since made her home.

She leaves to mourn her two brothers, William T. and N. B. Pence, both of this city, and six nieces and six nephews, Mrs. T. T. Barnes Jr., Mrs. Blanche Reynolds, Miss Florence Pence, Frank A. Pence of this city, Dr. R. W. Pence, Dr. J. R. Pence, Mrs. Henry Miley and Miss Christa Pence of North Dakota, and the Johnson family of Enid, Okla.

The funeral was held from the late home today at 10 o'clock, thence to Wyoming, where the last sad rites were said and interment made. Rev. Lockard, pastor of the M.E. church at Miles, officiated.
