6 June 1916 - The Clinton Advertiser

Maquoketa, Ia. June 6--At 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon George Taft, a highly esteemed farmer living about one mile west of the city limits, dropped dead. He had been ailing with rheumatism for three or four days, but thought himself sufficiently improved to get up and dress himself for the purpose of coming to the city to cast his vote, when suddenly he slid forward from his chair, falling upon the floor in a lifeless condition.

This is a hard blow to the wife, who is nearly blind with cataracts upon her eyes, which she intended to have removed at Davenport soon.

Mr. Taft was born June 22, 1860, being 55 years, 11 months, 17 days old. He was an enthusiastic Knight of Pythias, a member of the "Dokies" and belonged to Modern Woodmen of America.

The funeral will be held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m., Rev. Boomershine officiating.
