Dennis W. Schlung, 58, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, surrounded by family at his home in rural Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, March 15, 2019, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at a later date.

Dennis Wayne Schlung was born on September 19, 1960 in Wisconsin to Victor James and Norma Pauline (Sills) Schlung Sr. He grew up in Iowa and Texas and earned his GED. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army. He married Cathy Ann Fultner on August 23, 1980 in Maquoketa, Iowa. Two daughters were born to this union, Elizabeth and Rachel.

Dennis was an over the road truck driver first working for Campbell Trucking in Preston and then for Green Truckline in Cascade, Iowa until he retired due to ill health.

Dennis was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Maquoketa and the NRA. He enjoyed fishing, doing locksmith work and shooting at the gun range.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Cathy Schlung of Maquoketa, IA; daughters, Elizabeth (Robert) DeYoung of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Rachel (Jerrod) Dotson of Miles, IA; 6 grandchildren, Zachary, Dallas, Caitlin, Michael, Ethan and Gabriel; his mother Norma Kaping of OR; and siblings, Vickie Howard of OR, Henry Schlung of OR, Peggy (Chuck) Williams of OR, Janie (Sonny) Lengele of OR, Opal Denton of AR, Victor (Robyn) Schlung Jr. of WA, Lynn (Loretta) Schlung of Lewis, TX, Teri (James) Munson of TX, and Nancy (Roy) Taylor of TX. He was preceded in death by his father Victor and step-mother Lavon, and an infant brother Danny Schlung.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Dennis W. Schlung memorial fund has been established.
