Obituary for Richard Emil Bredekamp
One of the greatest hearts that ever beat has stilled…

Richard Emil Bredekamp, age 64, of Spragueville, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Preston. Burial will take place in Spragueville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2019 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston and also from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service at the church.

Richard was born on May 28, 1954, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the son of Emil and Margaret (Wildfang) Bredekamp. He attended North Bend /Fairfield #2 Country School until 1966, and then attended Preston Community Schools being graduated from Preston High School with the Class of 1972. On October 6, 1973, Richard married Sara Long. Together they celebrated 30 years of marriage and raised two sons.

Richard worked for Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, and drove truck for Campbell’s Trucking, and for several other individuals. He also worked for Ardo Schmidt Construction, and was the head bartender for Ryno’s in Goose Lake, Iowa. He worked many long hours for various farms including, Hartung, Holdgrafer, Beck and Blanchard Farms to name a few. Richard also worked the pit shack at the Jackson County Speedway. He was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in Spragueville and supported the North Bend Community Center Association. He enjoyed NASCAR and anything with motors and wheels, and music—especially the Beach Boys.

Richard will be dearly missed by his two sons, Ryan Bredekamp of Clinton, Iowa and Corey (Tracy) Bredekamp of Goose Lake; seven grandchildren, Orion (Jordan), Keenan, Dylan, Brooke, Breanna, Dallas, and Kyzer; one great-granddaughter, Milena Grace; three siblings, Brian (Debbie) Bredekamp of Spragueville, Caroline Bredekamp of Spragueville, and Kenneth Bredekamp of Preston; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Richard is preceded in death by both parents and his grandparents.
