Maquoketa, Ia., March 15--At his home on North Olive street in this city at 9:20 Monday morning occurred the death of Charles H. Berkley, after an illness of several months. Last summer Charley's health began to fail and despite all human help and tender care, he gradually failed until the end.

Charles H. Berkley was born at Brockport, N.Y., August 2, 1858, and when but a child moved with his people to Mt. Carroll, Ill., where he spent his youth, coming to Iowa in 1879 and locating near this city. They then moved to Kansas, where he spent four years, then returning to Bellevue, Ia., and was united in marriage in that city to Miss Christina Zentner on May 25, 1888, a year later coming to this city, in or near which they have since resided.

Besides the faithful wife he leaves to mourn one son, Robert of near Delmar; two daughters, Mrs. Ed Henneke of the Delmar vicinity, and Miss Myra at home. Also two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Haight of Fortune, Cal. and Mrs. O. W. Young of Chicago, and one brother, Thomas of this city, survive.

The funeral was held from the late home this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
