OBITUARY: Paul Rasmussen
Paul Rasmussen, a resident f this city for nearly fifty years, died at the City Hospital in Savanna at seven o’clock Tuesday morning after an illness of about six weeks. Mr. Rasmussen, who had been employed by the Milwaukee road for 48 years, had one hand injured while working in the Savanna shops on January 28th and a few days later a blood clot developed in one foot. He was taken to the hospital at Savanna for treatment, but it seemed that his resistance was not sufficient to cope with the advance of the embolism and he gradually grew weaker until the end came Tuesday morning. Paul Rasmussen was born March 29, 1861, in North Schleswig, Denmark, and had he lived until the 29th of the present month he would have been 69 years old. He arrived in America on December 2, 1881, and the following year was married in Sabula to Eline E. Lund, and they have since made this city their home. Mr. Rasmussen was an industrious, honest and thrifty citizen and held the respect of everyone who knew him. A few years ago they built a fine modern home on their lot north of the school grounds. Mr. Rasmussen was a member of Lafayette lodge, No 39, I.O.O.F., for 37 years and was also one of the older members of the Modern Woodman camp of this city. Surviving are the wife, two children: Cern Rasmussen, of Beloit, Wis., and Mrs. Chris Rosenburg, of Clinton: five grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Andrew Hansen, of Chicago Ill. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at two o’clock at the home. Rev. Holst, Danish Lutheran minister will officiate. The Odd Fellows lodge will conduct the services at the grave.
