Bernard Youth Meet Death

Claire Meehan, nineteen year old youth from Bernard, was killed in an automobile accident near Potosi, Wisc. Sometime Monday night or early Tuesday morning according to a telephone communication from the Sheriff’s office at Lancaster, received by the family about 10:30 Tuesday morning. Claire is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Meehan of Bernard. The exact nature of the automobile accident could not be learned at noon Tuesday but it was reported that Mr. Meehan was alone at the time and apparently failed to make a turn in the road and overturned, being pinned beneath the car.

Claire was employed as an attendant at the Donovan oil station in Bernard. He was born January 18, 1914 and would have been 20 years of age this month.

The news of his death came as a distinct shock to the family, friends and relatives in Bernard.

Surviving are the parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Carl; five sisters, Florence, Lucille, Geraldine, Mary Helen and Cleo; one sister died in childhood.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed but the funeral will probably be held Thursday morning to St. Patrick’s Church, Garryowen.
