CASCADE, Iowa - Carl J. Meehan, 83, of 808 First Ave. W., Cascade, died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the Monticello (Iowa) Nursing and Rehab Center, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Daniel Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade, where there will be a flag presentation accorded by the Cascade American Legion Post 528. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. The Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on May 13, 1921, in Bernard, son of Michael and Frances (Donovan) Meehan. He married Elsie Sadler on July 7, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fillmore.

He was a sergeant in the Army Air Force as a flight engineer with the 91st Reconnaissance Squadron.

After World War II, he worked for Gross & Otting Motors and Cascade Motor Sales. In 1960, the couple moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where he worked for Melloy Brothers. In 1965, Carl moved to Van Nuys, Calif., where he was employed with Key Motors. Carl was considered a master mechanic. He retired in 1990 and moved back to Cascade.

Carl's interests were cars, airplanes and electronic gadgets. He was a pilot and loved to fly. He also enjoyed photography and converting photos and film to video tapes and DVD's.

He was a member of St. Matthias Parish and the Cascade American Legion Post 528.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie Meehan, of Cascade; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Clair; and six sisters, Dorothy, Cleo, Geraldine, Florence, Lucille and Sister Michaeline.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to your favorite charity.

The family would like to thank Mercy Hospital, Mercy Hospice and the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center.
