BERNARD, Iowa - Mrs. Edmund F. (Ardella) Leonard, 88, of 135 Bernard Road, Bernard, died at 5:57 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, rural Bernard, with the Msgr. William Leonard and the Rev. Thomas Bisenius officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. and a rosary at 6 p.m.

She was born on July 6, 1912, in Bernard, daughter of Patrick and Catherine (Dunne) McCarthy. She married Edmund F. Leonard on June 3, 1947, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen. They farmed in Garryowen for many years until their retirement and moved to Bernard. She attended the former Immaculate Conception Academy and the University of Dubuque, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school for many years in the Bernard area.

Surviving are her husband, Edmund Leonard, of Bernard; a daughter, Marilyn (Tom) Holland, of La Crosse, Wis.; a son, James (Elaine) Leonard, of Madison, Wis.; two grandchildren, Katie and Tim Holland, of La Crosse; and a sister Mrs. Clifford (Lucille) Donovan, of Epworth, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Leslie, Vern, Clem, Lloyd and Clifford.
