James L. Sweeney 1931-2007

James L. Sweeney, 75, of 250 West 6th Street Apt. 315, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's North, Garryowen, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m.

He was born on Dec. 23, 1931, in Zwingle, Iowa, son of Joseph P. and Lavina (Hutchins) Sweeney.

He worked in logging for many years and lastly at the Julien Inn. He also did volunteer work at the towers. He loved to travel and he had the Irish gift of gab.

Surviving are his sisters, Bessie Ehlinger, of Dubuque, Grace (Paul) Kane, of Bernard, Lela (Charles) McCormick, of Dubuque, and Mary (Merlin) Wagner, of Zwingle; special friends, Arlene and Tony Ahern, of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, L.J. Sweeney.

A James L. Sweeney Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank St. Pat Conlon and friends at the Towers for all their friendship and care they gave to James.
