Bernard Area Man Killed In Collision

MAQUOKETA, Ia. – Leo Noonan, 64, of near Bernard, Ia., was killed about 12:45 p.m. Saturday in a head-on collision with a vehicle drive by his nephew, Glenn Noonan, 30, Dubuque County farmer, about two miles southwest of Bernard. Injured were Glenn Noonan, his two-year-old daughter, Karen, and Edna McDevitt, 56, his mother-in-law, all in the Glenn Noonan car.

Leo Noonan was driving alone.

The accident happened on a crest of Jackson County Road G., a grave route three fifths of a mile west of West Garryowen church, about two miles southwest of Bernard. Both cars were a total loss, highway patrolman, William Kincade and Jackson County Deputy Sheriff Graham Moyer said.

Glenn Noonan, in fair condition, with a possible broken hip, was transferred from Monticello Hospital to Veteran’s Hospital at Iowa City.

His daughter, Karen, was reported in good condition in the Monticello hospital.

Mrs. McDevitt, reported in critical condition with a broken leg and other injuries, was taken to University Hospitals at Iowa City from Monticello hospital.

Leo Noonan is survived by his widow; a son, Wilbur; two daughters, Maurna, at home, and Mrs. Ray McDonnell.
