BERNARD, Iowa - William R. Noonan, 74, 272 Nagel St., Bernard, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 1997, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, rural Bernard, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m. and a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Noonan was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works and then at the Cascade Lumber Co., retiring in 1988.

He was born on April 25, 1923, in Jackson County, son of Frank and Mary (Budde) Noonan. He married Mary Claire Redmond on Nov. 7, 1945, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen; she died May 18, 1994.

He graduated from the former Garryowen High School. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, the Cascade Knights of Columbus Council 930, and the Cascade Town Country League. He was a former Bernard City Council member and a former member of the Prairie League baseball team. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Surviving are two daughters, Sheyrl (Mark) Christianson, of Madison, Wis., and Kathy Simon, of Dubuque; one granddaughter, Christine Simon, of Dubuque; and three brothers, Gerard and Frank Noonan, both of Dubuque, and Glynn Noonan, of Bernard.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Anne Noonan on July 4, 1987; and a brother, Paul Noonan.

A William R. Noonan Memorial Fund has been established
