Funeral Wednesday at N. Garryowen for John McMahon

John McMahon, well known Garryowen resident, died at Mercy Hospital, Anamosa Sunday evening. He had been ill for some time.

Funeral services were held from the Devaney Funeral Home Wednesday morning to St. Patrick's church, North Garryowen, at 9:30 o'clock. Rev James Cassidy, pastor, offered the Mass of Requiem, delivered the, sermon and officiated at the interment services in the parish cemetery.

John McMahon, son of the late Owen and Catherine (Flynn) McMahon, was born Christmas Day, December 25, 1897 in Garryowen. He was educated in the schools there. All of his life was spent in farming in his home community.

On February 20, 1928 he was united in Holy Matrimony with Miss Elizabeth Lynch in St. Patrick's church, North Garryowen. To this union were born four children, namely Mrs. Eugene (Catherine) Beschen, Mrs. Robert (Delores) Neyens, both of Dubuque; Willard McMahon of Dubuque and Thomas McMahon stationed with the United States army in Japan. Other survivors include one brother, Albert McMahon, of Zwingle; three sisters, Misses Lorraine and Gertrude McMahon, both of Garryowen; Mrs. Peter (Florence) Larson of Chicago; and, five grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers.

Pallbearers, were T. J Carr, Clarence Bollinger, Frank Ronek, Jerry Ryle, Louis Moran, Frank Noonan.
