Daughter of Pioneer Family Dies Here

Mrs. Anastasia McCarthy, wife of Charles McCarthy, 447 Summit street, died at the family home Saturday night at 11:30 o’clock. Death followed a prolonged illness during which she beautifully exemplified the virtues of Christian patience and resignation.

Mrs. McCarthy was a daughter of the deceased Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bull, pioneers of Jackson county. She grew up to young womanhood on her parents’ farm, coming to Dubuque after her marriage to Mr. McCarthy.

In her passing the community loses a character of sterling worth – one whose chief interest centered in her home and loved ones. She was a member of the Sacred Heart League and the Rosary Society of St. Raphael’s Cathedral.

Surviving Mrs. McCarthy are her husband, one daughter, Katherine, two brothers and five sisters. She was preceded in death by two sons and two daughters all of whom died in childhood.

The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 8 o’clock from the home to St. Raphael’s Cathedral. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery, Garryowen.
