JOHN O'CONNELL.

Another prominent citizen of Butler township, Jackson county, paid the debt of nature when John O'Connell died at the family residence last Friday evening. Mr. O'Connell had been in ill health for some time and his death, while none the less deplored and keenly felt, was not an unexpected event, as his ailment precluded any great hope of recovery.

Mr. O'Connell was born in Nashville, Tenn., May 28, 1837. He came direct from there to Butler township June 9, 1840 and from that time to the hour of his death lived on the old homestead where he breathed his last.

On the 8th day of July, 1866, he was united in marriage to Hannah Fitzgerald, who died seventeen years ago last June. He is survived by the following children: James, Patrick, John, David, Timothy, Mary (wife of Patrick Crotty), Nora, and Josephine. One daughter, Katie, died several years ago. His brothers, William and James O'Connell, are well known citizens of that section.

Mr. O'Connell was held in high esteem by his neighbors, honored by his family, and his death is a loss and sorrow to the parish of St. Patrick's church, of which he was a faithful and consistent member. The funeral was held last Sunday morning, Rev. E. Slattery, officiating, and the following old neighbors acted as pallbearers: David Crotty, David Donovan, David Lynch, William Redmond, Dan T. Noonan, and P. J. Noonan. A large concourse of people attended the service and assisted in paying the last earthly tribute to the deceased.
