BERNARD, Iowa - James D. Molony, 75, of 17563 O'Brien Road, Bernard, died at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, rural Bernard. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Cascade American Legion Post 528. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Molony was a state trooper with the Iowa Highway Patrol for six years and later worked with Dubuque County road maintenance for 11 years. He also farmed in the Bernard area for many years, retiring in 1987.

He was born on Dec. 9, 1924, in Bernard, son of Michael J. and Grace (Cannon) Molony. He married Dorothy Collins on May 30, 1956, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He was born and raised in Bernard, where he graduated from St. Patrick's High School, Garryowen. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Parish, Garryowen; Dubuque County Democratic Central Committee; Dubuque County Draft Board and the Bernard Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Aquin School Board and also belonged to the Cascade American Legion Post 528.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, of Bernard; two sons, Michael (Lynn) Molony, of Bernard, and James D. Jr. (Jane) Molony, of Iowa City; three daughters, Kimberly (Ron) Reuter and Mary (Rick) Hoffman, both of Farley, and Staci Molony, of Janesville, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Joshua, Peter, Maggie and Patrick Reuter, Hannah, Tessa, Billy and Shannon Hoffman, and Michael Jr. and Johnny Molony; four brothers, Michael (Dot) Molony, of McFarland, Wis., John (Rita) Molony and Patrick (Elaine) Molony, both of Dubuque, and Richard (Barb) Molony, of Bernard; and four sisters, Sister Mary Sheila Molony, RSM, of Cedar Rapids, Anne Feeney, of Bernard, Rita Della Valle, of San Rafael, Calif., and Martha (William) Hutchins, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Frances Anglin; and two brothers-in-law, Gerald Feeney and Del Della Valle.

The Molony family wishes to thank Bernard emergency services; Dr. Mark Janes and Cindy; and the staff of Five South at The Finley Hospital, especially Jeanne Noonan, Bitty Healey and Luann Ambrosy for their kindness and the excellent care they gave Dad.
