BERNARD, Iowa - Melvin Vincent Henneberry, 83, of Bernard, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Sacred Heart Fillmore, with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick's Garryowen Cemetery with Military Honors by Cascade American Legion Post #528. Friends of Melvin may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 3:00 p.m.

Melvin was born on June 18, 1931, in Bernard, Iowa, the son of Michael Vincent and Catherine (Flanigan) Henneberry. He graduated from Saint Patrick's Garryowen and attended Loras College. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a radio operator.

On October 8, 1966, Melvin was united in marriage to Rosalind (Rosie) Lansing at Saint Patrick's Church in Dubuque. Melvin farmed in Bernard his whole life, never fully retiring, right up until his last days. He was known for his quick wit and charm and could always put a smile on your face.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rosie, children Cathy (Rick) Yanke, of Reedsburg, WI, Steve (Machelle) Henneberry, of Solon, Iowa, and Jenny (Geoff) Dumolien, of Robins, Iowa, eight grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Bryant and Logan Yanke, Cody, Hayden and Josh Henneberry, and Dominick, Aaron and Jake Dumolien, his siblings Maxine O'Connell, of Maquoketa, JoAnn (James) Cahill, of Preston, Dick (Arlene) Henneberry, of Cascade, Sr. Kathleen Henneberry, CHM, of Davenport, Joyce (Ray) Stratton, of Peoria, IL, a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Henneberry, and 67 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John, and two sisters, Luella and Doris.

In lieu of flowers, a Melvin Henneberry memorial fund has been established.
