DEATH OF JOHN WILLIAMS

Died at Independence Sunday Evening
After Long Illness

John Williams, well known resident of Gary Owen, Jackson County, died at Independence evening Sunday morning, at 7:15, January 8th, 1922, after an illness of several years.

Mr. Williams was born in Butler Township, Jackson County, December 31, 1854, and his parents were Patrick Williams and Mary Phillips. He was married twice. His first wife was Bridget Howard, whom he married October 6th, 1866, to them the following children were born and still survive their parents: John V. Williams, of Bellevue, Iowa; Sister Mary Candia of San Francisco, Calif.; and Ruth Williams of Omaha. His second wife was Elizabeth Tiernan, of Dubuque, who survives him with the following children: Mathias, Leo, and Regina, all at home.

Mr. Williams remains were brought from Independence Monday morning by funeral directors, Koob & Devaney, to Cascade, and thence to the home in Butler Township, and the funeral services were held at St. Patrick’s Church Wednesday morning at 9:30 o’clock, and were conducted by the Rev. P. J. Coffey.

Deceased was a lifelong resident of Butler Township, and was a popular and respected citizen, whose death is sincerely regretted by all who knew him, and the sympathy of the community is extended to his wife and children.

Those who carried the remains to the last resting place were: William McCarthy, Dave Donovan, Patrick Brady, John Federspiel, Dan Noonan, and Michael Reddin.
