IRENE C. GOHLMANN

Irene C. Gohlmann, 90, of Maquoketa, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa.

A celebration of life service was held Saturday, July 12, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa with the Gerald Gjerde officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials may be to the Irene C. Gohlmann Memorial Fund.

She was born July 30, 1917, in Andrew, Iowa, to Anton and Christina Jorgensen Gombert. She was a graduate of Andrew Community High School. She was united in marriage with Durward E. Gohlmann on Dec. 23, 1936, in Lost Nation. She was a homemaker who farmed with her husband, first in Calamus, then Lost Nation, later moving to Maquoketa.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa and its women's Priscilla Circle; a member of the Maquoketa Country Club and Maquoketa American Legion ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her sons and daughters, Merlyn Gohlmann of Maquoketa; Marlene Hicks of Wheatland; Myrna Larkey and Kathy Becker of Maquoketa and Gaylyn Gohlmann of Grinnell; 23 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren and two sisters, Eva Gohlmann of Lost Nation and Mary Lucille Barker of Maquoketa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, three brothers, two sisters and two great grandchildren.
