John V. Dunne

John V. "Jack" Dunne, 78, of Otter Creek, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, in his home. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at St. Lawrence in Otter Creek, with the Rev. Donald Hertges officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 2, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m. Pallbearers are his sons, Peter, Raymond, Maurice and William, and grandsons, John Dunne Jr. and Patrick Blackert. John was born Jan. 11, 1935, on the family farm in rural Otter Creek to Thomas J. and Anna (Small) Dunne, the youngest of nine children. He worked all his life on the farm, raising cattle, hogs, sheep and general livestock production. Mr. Dunne was very proud of his lifelong commitment to his family's century farm.
He married MaryEtta Heiar on Jan. 7, 1961, in Springbrook. He is survived by his wife, MaryEtta, their children are Thomas (Julie), of Cascade, Peter (Janette), and Raymond, of Otter Creek, Jennifer (Jon) Blackert, of Mineral, Ill., Maurice (Karen) and William, of Otter Creek, and James, of Monticello. John's grandchildren are John Dunne Jr., Abigail and Patrick Blackert and Jessica Tuel. He is also survived by his sisters, Mrs. Oscar (Rita) Gavin, of Worthington, and Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) Kurt, of Cascade; and his mother-in-law, Alverda Heiar. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, three brothers and a grandson, Jacob Dunne.
