Lamotte, Ia., July 1 - Theodore Hingtgen, one of the old citizens of Jackson county, passed away on Wednesday. He came over from the old country when only two years of age, and has been a resident of Prairie Springs township ever since.

He was born in Luxemburg, Europe, on February 21st, 1849, and came with his parents to this country two years later.

February 4th, 1873, he married Miss Anna Wagoner, and to this union were born ten children, nine of whom are still living, one having died in infancy.

On May 28th, 1902, Mr. Hingtgen was thrown from a horse, and injured to such an extent that he never fully recovered. It is thought that this was largely the cause of his death. The immediate malady, however, was dropsy.

The funeral services were conducted Friday morning at the Holy Rosary church by Rev. Father Friedman, pastor of the church. The deceased has always been a conscientious member [of] the Catholic church.

He has lived a noble and exemplary life, and his loss will be keenly felt by his family and relatives as well as by a large host of friends. He was widely known throughout this section of the country, and his death is the occasion of great grief among his many friends.

Interment took place at the Holy Rosary cemetery.

The following children survive to mourn the death of their father: Anton, Maggie, Mary, John, Mary Ann, Susie, Ann, Nicholas and Theodore.

The following brothers and sisters are living: J.P., John, Matt, Anton, N.J., Catherine, Maggie, Elizabeth, Mary, Ann and Susie. He was the second child in a family of thirteen.

Mr. Hingtgen, during his younger days, was one of the most prominent farmers in Jackson county. A few years ago he became a resident of Lamotte, where he spent his last days. In the passing away of Mr. Hingtgen, the community has lost one of her most influential and respected citizens.
