OBITUARY

George W. House was born in Madison County, New York, on the 10th day of May, 1823, and died in Maquoketa, Iowa on the 17th day of January, 1896, aged 72 years, 8 months and 7 days. In September 1854 he was united in marriage to Miss Olive McCormick, who died in 1864, leaving two children, Harry D. and Hattie E., now Mrs. Edward V. Sheeley. In October, 1854, he moved from New York and settled in Maquoketa where he has resided since. On the breaking out of the Rebellion he enlisted in Company F, 31st Iowa Infantry, in which he served until he was honorably discharged on account of disability. In June, 1866, he was again married to Mrs. E. D. Nichols, who together with his two children, five brothers and one sister are left to mourn their loss. In religious belief he was of the liberal school, doing unto others as he wished to be done by. He rests in peace.
