Mrs. Hattie Dice, Maquoketa's oldest mother, died Wednesday morning on her 96th birthday. Just last Mother's Day, Mrs. Dice was presented a bouquet of roses by Beta Sigma Phi as the organization's tribute to city's oldest mother.

Mrs. Dice was born January 4, 1854, on a farm five miles south of Maquoketa. Since he husband's death, Mrs. Dice has lived with her daughter, Nell, at 514 West Platt Street. Surviving besides her daughter is a son, Bruce, who lives on a farm south of Maquoketa. The funeral will be Saturday at the Buchner chapel in Maquoketa with the Rev. Howard Bell officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery.
