GUS PICKETT DIES OF BULLET WOUND

Baldwin Man Shot During Dance Passed Away at Three O'clock Last Friday Afternoon

Gus Pickett, who was shot during the dance at Gollibith's Hall in Baldwin Tuesday night of last week, lingered between life and death until Friday afternoon when he succumbed to the fatal bullet which penetrated his right lung causing internal hemorrhage. There were times when the wounded man would regain consciousness, but could not command sufficient strength to tell any of the details of the tragedy and all evidence against Van Teeple, his slayer, must be gathered from witnesses who were present at the time of the shooting. Teeple was brought to Maquoketa Wednesday afternoon by Sheriff Regenwether and committed to the county jail where he is now confined, without bond. County attorney Ely will press the charge of murder against the prisoner, who will probably plead self defense.

Mr. Pickett was a young man of 34 years, married and resided with his parents at Baldwin. He is survived also by five brothers, Joseph, Will, Lucian, Eugene and Glenn. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Baldwin Monday morning at 10 o'clock with interment in the Baldwin cemetery.
