Jackson Sentinel, January 18, 1935

John W. Gibson was found dead in his bed at his home in Gibsonville Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Gibson, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Gibson, was born May 30, 1871, at Maquoketa and had spent his entire life in Maquoketa and vicinity, principally on a farm just beyond city limits of Maquoketa.

He was married to Olive Orr who preceded him in death on December 20, 1933, and for many years they followed the occupation of farming. Eight children were born to this union, all of whom survuve: Howard, Ernest and Edward, Mrs. Percy Whitchelo, Mrs. Asmus Petersen, all of Maquoketa; Mrs. Paul Round of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Mayme Clarkson of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Also 20 grandchildren, one brother, Urban Gibson, and one sister, Mrs. Edna Elwing of Los Angeles, Calif., and one uncle, Sam N. Gibson of Maquoketa.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 Thursday afternoon at Buchner's chapel, Rev. George F. Barsalou officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.
