SOLDIER RITES HERE FRIDAY

Pvt. Floyd Gombert Killed in Algeria, 1943

Funeral services will be held at Carson Balster Funeral Home Friday at 2 p.m., for Pvt. Floyd J. Gombert, who was killed in action December 15, 1943 in Algeria, North Africa. The Rev. Maurice Powers, army chaplain, will officiate and veterans organizations will accord military honors. Burial will be in the Andrew cemetery.

By a Mayor's proclamation places of business will close Friday, June 4 between the hours of 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and all flags will be placed at half-mast for the funeral.

Pvt. Gombert was born July 15, 1907 at Andrew. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Gombert of Maquoketa; two brothers, C. T. Gombert of Otter Creek and Clarence of Buckhorn; and five sisters, Mrs. S. W. Snoeberger and Mrs. D. E. Gohlman of Lost Nation; Mrs. Ronald Gohlman of Maquoketa and Mrs. Howard Wilson of Central City.
