Clara L. Michels, 97, of Bellevue, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 10, 1996 at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue, with the Msgr. Ernest Ament officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. (rest of para. not transcribed)

She was born on Sept. 30, 1898, in Springbrook, daughter of Nicholas and Katherine (Didier)
Gerardy. She married Peter M. Michels on Oct. 28, 1919, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bellevue. They farmed in the Springbrook and Bellevue areas and later ran the Riverview Hotel in Bellevue.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its rosary society, the Bellevue American Legion Reveille Post 273 Ladies Auxiliary, Bellevue Knights of Columbus Council 1354 Ladies auxiliary, and Bellevue Senior Citizens. She enjoyed her family and playing cards and bingo.

Surviving are six sons, Orville (Florence), Marvin (Rose Mary), Lester (Leanna), Larry (Joyce) and Robert (Celma), all of Dubuque, and Kenneth (Orva Mae), of Springbrook; two daughters, Mrs. Cletus (Arlene) McGinnis, of Dubuque, and Mrs. Bill (Norma) Casel, of Otter Creek; 67 grandchildren, 120 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Medinger, of Bellevue.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter M. Michels, on Nov. 24, 1985; a daughter, Maxine Kueter, on Oct. 24, 1971; two great-great-grandchildren; and 11 brothers and sisters.
