Roush---Elijah Roush was born in Harrison Co. Ohio, May 17, 1829 and died in Maquoketa May 30, 1901 at the age of 72. When 14 years of age the family moved to Wabash Co., Indiana, and thence in 1844 to Jackson Co., Ia, where he has since resided. He followed farming with success and was able to retire a number of years ago with a competence, making his home in this city. For the past year or more he has been a great sufferer with cancer, the disease that ended his life. Mr. Roush has always borne the reputation of an upright, honest man, a good citizen and a good neighbor. The funeral service was held in the Congregational church at 2 p.m. June 1st, Rev. S. Shepherd officiating. The interment was in Mt. Hope cemetery.

There were born to them four children of whom but one survives that is Mrs. John Turner. Two of the children died in infancy and a son after attaining 34 years of age. A devoted wife and several brothers also mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate husband and brother.
