Samuel Roush Answers Call

After a brief illness Sam Roush, an esteemed citizen of Maquoketa passed away at his home on South Otto street early Tuesday morning.

He was born January 1, 1835 in Harrison county, Ohio and came to Jackson county in 1852 with his parents who setlted on a farm here where he resided until about 25 years ago when he retired and moved to Maquoketa.

He had been married twice and both wives and five children preceded him in death. He was one of a family of 13, one sister, Mrs. Taylor of Kansas City survives, also three grandchildren in the western part of Iowa.

Funeral services were held from the late home Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. McDonald officiating with interment in the Esgate cemetery.
