Jackson Sentinel, Maquoketa, Iowa
Thursday, April 24, 1884
Grant---On Tuesday morning, April 15, Wm. C. Grant, aged nearly 66 years.

William C. Grant was born at Perry Centre, Genesee county, N. Y., August 9, 1819. At the age of 17 he removed to Jackson, Michigan, with his parents, and engaged in the milling business which he followed for nine years, after which he removed to Jackson county, Iowa. In 1846 he was married to Miss Mary E. Chandler. He then engaged in the manufacture of wagons with his father-in-law. This occupation he followed for a number of years. He finally engaged in agriculture which occupation he followed to the close of his life.

He was of a quiet, unassuming disposition, and always wished to be at peace with his fellow-men. He has held several important offices with perfect satisfaction to his constituents. At the organization of the Bridgeport Division (No. 7) Sons of Temperance, in 1868, he joined the order and has been a consistent member, having reached the high office of Grand Worthy Associate in the Grand Division of Iowa. He will be sadly missed in the temperance cause.

He had nearly attained his 66th year and had reared a family of eight children, the youngest of whom is 18 years of age, who with his wife were all present at his death-bed to receive his blessing and last sad farewell.
