Jackson County Loses Another Good Citizen

In the death of Atwood Morehead, which occurred last Friday afternoon, Jackson county has lost another of its highly honored citizens and his sudden passing came as a shock to the countless friends he had won by his splendid character, high ideals and true exemplification of manhood and citizenship. Mr. Morehead had been afflicted with a cold for several days and came from his home near Iron Hill to purchase some cold tablets of Mrs. Fannie Blanchard, local agent for the Watkins remedies. He went to her home on South Main street to obain the remedy and while seated in a chair was stricken with a heart attack and asked Mrs. Blanchard to call his son Clarence at the Penrose filling station who upon arrival called a physician and an ambulance intending to take his father to the hospital as soon as possible, but before the arrival of the physician, death had done its work.

Sorrow has certainly enshrouded this splendid family throughout the past few months, a daughter, Mrs. Mae Fuller passed away last March, the wife following in death on July 25th, and on Monday morning, the day of Mr. Morehead's funeral, word came from the hospital at Iowa City that another daughter, Mrs. Thelma Beck, had passed away at that place after a long illness, and the sincere, heartfelt sympathy of an entire community goes out to the remaining children in their hour of bitter bereavement. Funeral services for the latter will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday at the Congregational church, Rev. G. F. Barsalou officiating. Burial will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery.

The obituary of Mr. Morehead follows, while that of Mrs. Beck will appear in our next issue:
