Jackson Sentinel, Maquoketa, Iowa
Thursday, March 5, 1914

Elizabeth Liston, daughter of John and Catherine Liston, was born in Perry county, Ohio, June 16, 1830. In 1852 she came with her parents to Iowa and settled on a farm north of Maquoketa, where they endured the hardships of the early pioneer life. The following year she was united in marriage with Charles Morehead of Jackson county, Iowa where they since made their home except for two years which were spent in the western part of this state, Potawattamie county. To this union were born three children, Atwood Morehead a retired farmer, Martha A., wife of John Burkey, and Mary C., wife of J. S. Tracy, each of Maquoketa, Iowa, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren. Out of the Liston family of ten, there are but two brothers and two sisters living, Mrs. John Roush, Maquoketa; Mrs. Margaret Morehead of Oklahoma, and Joseph and Auston Liston of South Dakota.

About twenty-nine years ago under the preaching of W. C. Thompson, whe was converted and later received strong assurance of the clensing blood. She then united with the Free Methodist church and has ever since lived a consistent, devoted, earnest, spirit-filled life always encouraged in the Lord; a noble woman and a beautiful character.

She treasured no ill will toward anyone. Her patience was great during her illness and all that was possible for loving hands was administered unto her. The children and loving friends were untiring in efforts to comfort. Never were children and husband more devoted. He said one thing he had desired was to live and be able to care for her to the end, which desire was granted. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a kind neighbor, when able always engaged in deeds of kindness, never happier than when surrounded by family circle. Home and church were her two great spheres, always present at the religious services when health would permit, but for the past eight years her weakened physical condition rendered it impossible. Christmas seemed to be the turning point, since then she has rapidly failed until Friday, February 27, at 8 a. m. she was relieved from her toil and suffering and her spirit took its flight. Of her it may truly be said, "She hath done what she could." She reared her family for God and had the comfort of knowing each of her children were following the noble example she set which is worthy of our imitation.

One of her daughters is now our able class leader. The mother has now gone to her reward eternal. Amen. Services were conducted at the home Sunday at 2 p. m., March 1, by the writer. The text used was Psalm 116:15---"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." The sermon centered about the idea that death is not an enemy but rather an essential to pass into the larger and more beautiful life.
