Jackson Sentinel, Jan. 21, 1921

Irene Elizabeth Reed was born near Fulton, Jackson County, Ia., February 8th, 1861, and grew to an interesting young womanhood in that vicinity. She was united in marriage to Mr. Thomas Elrick on June 9, 1897. This union was blessed with two children, a son, Floyd, who died in infancy, and daughter, Florence, who is at home and has been a great comfort and blessing to her parents. Mrs. Elrich became a member of the Reformed church by profession of faith and adult baptism. She took great comfort in her Christian privileges and attended the regular services when health and circumstances permitted. She began to fail in health some years ago and alhough she rallied, she never recovered her full strength. About three weeks ago she had to give up and go to bed and failed gradually until her Master called and she fell gently asleep in Jesus on Monday, Jan. 17, 1921, aged 59 years, 11 months and 9 days. She was a great home woman, a loyal friend and a fond and affectionate wife and mother, and loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her mourning and bereft husband and daughter, three brothers, John, Isaac, and William, all of Spragueville, and five sisters, Mrs. Mary Jane Lowe and Miss Lou A. Reed, Maquoketa, Mrs, Ella McCloy from Delmar Junction, Mrs. Liela McCloy and Mrs. Ida Keeney, Spragueviile. Funeral services were held at the home eight miles northeast of Maquoketa, on Wednesday. Jan. 19. at 2 p. m., where a large circle of friends gathered to pay last earthly tribue to the departed and express their sympathy to the living. Mrs. Frank Wilson and Mrs. Hugo Staack sang consoling gospel hymns and Rev. D. F. Boomershine, her pastor, spoke words of consolation to family and friends. The floral tribute of loved ones was beautiful and expressive. Burial was made on the family lot in the beautiful Andrew cemetery, there to wait the resurrection of the just.
