Cascade Pioneer, Sep. 24, 1931
Death claimed another resident of Cascade when Mrs. Jas. E. McMullen passed away Wednesday morning at four o'clock at her home. Mrs. McMullen died from complications resulting from a malignant illness, she having been quite sick for the past nine months and for some time previous. Mrs. McMullen was only forty-four years of age at the time of her death and was a most respected and good woman of the community. A fine mother possessed of a wonderful Christian character was Mrs. McMullen. She left this world knowing that she had performed all the exacting duties of life in a most cheerful and happy manner and leaves not only a mournful family to regret her departure but sorrow in the hearts of all who knew her. Clara Streuser, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Streuser, was born in Cascade, October 15th, 1886 and was educated in this city at St. Mary's school. She was married to James E. McMullen at the Cathedral in Dubuque in 1901 and lived practically all her life in this community. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, on whose executive board she served, and the St. Martin's Rosary Society. Deceased leaves to survive her, her husband, one son, Joseph, of Milwaukee, and two daughters, Mrs. B. R. Schiech of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. K. L. Scott of Santa Monica, Cal. She is also survived by three brothers Joseph, John and William and four sisters, Mrs. Nick Cigrand, of Cascade, Mrs. N. B. Schneider and Mrs. W. Knake of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Albert Billings of Monticello. Another sister, Mrs. Josie Bensch, died seven years ago. Funeral services will be held at St. Martin's church and burial at St. Patrick's cemetery, Garryowen.
