WALTER K. ALLEN
Walter K. Allen, 68, of Maquoketa and formerly of Monmouth, Iowa, died on Thursday evening, July 18, 1991 at St. Lukes Hospital, Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Monday July 22, 1991 at 10:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church, Monmouth, with Ruth Ann Scott, Diaconal Minister, officiating. Burial was in the Monmouth Cemetery, with military honors. Walter was born October 22, 1922 in rural Jones County to Lee M. and Aletha Trimble Allen. He married Darleen Neuman on June 18, 1946 in Marion, Iowa. She survives.
Walter was postmaster of Monmouth for 15 years, retiring in 1985 and had farmed in Jones County for many years. He was a member of the O'Connor-Regenwether Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 75, Maquoketa Masonic Lodge #6 of Marion, Baldwin American Legion, and the Baldwin-Nashville Telephone Board. He served on the Monmouth City Council and the school boards of Monmouth and Midland schools for many years. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army.
Survivors include his wife Darleen, Maquoketa, one daughter, Mrs. (Courtney) Carol Hunt, Pleasant Valley, his father, Lee Allen, Maquoketa, three grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. (Kent) Marie Williams, Wellman and Mrs. (Dale) Ruth Mayberry, Williamsburg, three brothers, Clyde, Wyoming, Harold, Waterloo and Kenneth, Maquoketa. He was preceded in death by his mother.
