Edward W. Marburger, age 87, of Sabula, Iowa, died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at his home in Sabula. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, with Rev. Robert Krueger officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, rural Sabula. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Sabula. A memorial has been established in Edwards name.

Edward was born April 9, 1921, in Miles, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Sarah (Johnson) Marburger. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Edward was united in marriage to Alberta Boock on May 11, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2002.

Edward owned and operated the Lakeside Drive Inn and Motel in Sabula for twelve years and farmed in the Sabula area for twelve years. Edward also operated car businesses including Ed’s Auto Sales in Sabula. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula and the Sabula V.F.W.

Edward is survived by two daughters, Barbara Marshall of Sabula, Iowa, and Bonnie (Roger) Greve – House of Sabula; six sons, Richard (Carole) Marburger of Sabula, Robert Marburger of Sabula, John (Leone) Marburger of Sabula, Gary (Penny) Marburger of Ottumwa, Iowa, Thomas (Sandy) Marburger of Davenport, Iowa, and Ronald (Janet) Marburger of Flagstaff, Arizona; thirty – one grandchildren, fifty – five great – grandchildren, and eight great great – grandchildren.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alberta, and three sisters.
