FORMER STATE SENATOR GEORGE W. TABOR DIES

Funeral services for George W. Tabor, former state senator, who died Thursday afternoon in his home north of Baldwin, were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the home. The Revs. F. E. Mastin and Knoer of Monmouth and D. C. Perry officiated at the services and burial was at Pence cemetery.

Mr. Tabor was born December 6, 1872, near Baldwin, the third child of Andrew J. and Nancy Cooley Tabor, Jackson County pioneers. He completed the Baldwin high school course when he was 17 and at once engaged in farming, working with his father and at 21 entered a partnership with him. Following his father's death in 1901, he bought the home farm of 240 acres and had added to it until he was oprating 1,370 acres at the time of his senatorial services in 1929 to 1933. His farm was always stocked with fine horses, cattle, hogs and sheep and his agricultural standing was high in eastern Iowa.

He was one of the organizers of the Baldwin Savings Bank and was president for many years. He served as senator from this district in the forty-third and forty-fourth general assemblies, being elected on the democratic ticket, the only political office he sought.

He married Miss Ellen Gilmer, November 27, 1890, and survives him. Two sons, Howard and Clifford of Baldwin and three daughters, Mrs. Bruce Werden of Davenport, Mrs. Willard Stewart of Maquoketa and Mrs. Leon Grey of Gary, Indiana, and ten grandchildren also survive.
