OBITUARY

The funeral of Mrs. Nancy Gruver Porter, a former resident of this vicinity and with many relatives residing in Clinton and Jackson Counties, occurred at Baldwin Wednesday of last week, conducted by Rev. Boomershine of the Reformed church. Interment was at the cemetery in Monmouth, where several relatives preceded her.

Nancy Gruver was born in Medina County, Ohio, in 1832 and died at the home of her granddaughter in Cherokee, Iowa, September 26, 1914. Mrs. Gruver came to Iowa with her parents in 1852, making the trip from Ohio in a covered wagon.

She was married three times, the first husband being Andrew D. Kelsaw, to whom she was united in 1856. Mr. Kelsaw died in 1857. A year later the widow was taken in marriage by John Posten, who was killed in an accident while sinking a well in the following year. To each of these marriages one child, a girl, was born, one of whon died in infancy, the other, Mary Jane, growing to maturity. The third marriage occurred in 1902 to Mr. H. Porter, whose death followed in 1905.

Deceased was the oldest of a family of eleven children, seven girls and four boys. Of these, but two survive. The last 12 years of her life she resided in Cherokee, Iowa, with her granddaughter.
