Maquoketa Excelsior, June 14, 1895-

Mrs. Elizabeth Shinkle, died at nine o'clock, Monday, June 10, 1895, at the home of her son-in-law and stepson, Mr. E. D. Shinkle, of this city. Elizabeth Simmons was born in Brown County, Ohio, August 19, 1815. She came to this county in 1846. Three years later she became the wife of Elisha Collins. To them were born a daughter, now Mrs. E. D. Shinkle. Mr. Collins died in 1851. Two years later, Mrs. Collins became the wife of Daniel Shinkle, fsther, father of E. D. Shinkle. Mr. Shinkle has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. E. D. Shinkle. About a week before her death, Mrs. Shinkle had a stroke of paralysis-her second. It caused her to fall and the fall fractured her hip. Monday she had her third stroke, which caused her death. Mrs. Shinkle was highly respected by all who knew her. Funeral services, conducted by Dr. S. W. Heald, were held at the home Wednesday, and the remains were laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery, near her old country home, north of town.
