Mrs. Sybil Romer
Mrs. Sybil Romer, 100, Maquoketa, died Thursday in Jackson County Public Hospital.
The funeral will be at 1:30 PM Saturday at Haylock-O’Hara Funeral Home, with Rev James Campbell of Monmouth Baldwin Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 PM today at the funeral home.
Born Dec 29, 1873 in Maquoketa Township, she was the daughter of Francis and Charity Tubbs Keeley. She married Adolph (Otto) Romer Aug 15, 1917, in Maquoketa. He died in 1929.
Survivors include a step daughter, Mrs. Ruth Westphal, Clinton, and a stepson, Bert Romer, Maquoketa. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Note: This is from an original newspaper clipping, which I have possession of. There was no date on this, but she died on July 4, 1974. I did attend her 100th birthday party at the nursing home when I was around 19 with my mother and my grandmother, Alice Mummert. I still have a couple of the napkins from the birthday party.
