Raymond J. Luke age 84 of Maquoketa Iowa died Monday morning May 19 2003 at the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday May 22 2003 from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa Iowa with Rev. Gerald Gjerde of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. until 11 A.M. Service Time on Thursday from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa Iowa. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery rural Maquoketa Iowa where full military rites will be accorded by the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75 VFW Post #3633 O?Connor-Regenwether & the Andrew AMVETS Post #62.

Raymond J. Luke was born on July 28 1918 in Rural Lost Nation Iowa to James Luke and Dora (Powlistha) Luke. He was a graduate of Lost Nation High School and a World War II veteran of the Army. He married Verna A. Hankemeier on October 18 1952 in Maquoketa Iowa.

Mr. Luke had worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa for 12 years and had also worked as an electrician and carpenter for many years. He was a ?jack-of-all-trades?. He and his wife Verna had served as the First Lutheran church custodian?s for 30 years.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa and the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75. He loved doing carpentry work reading watching television and doing crossword puzzles. He enjoyed his family very much and loved spending time with them especially his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by: his wife- Verna Luke of Maquoketa IA; step-children- Richard ?Dick?(Jane) Moeller of Palm Beach Gardens FL & Lois(Mrs. Wayne) Schepers of Delmar IA; 1 sister- Velma(Mrs. George) Norris of Central City IA; Kathleen Mae Norris (Mrs. Scott) Allen of Des Moines and Randall Allen Norris of Kansas City MO & numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
