BELLEVUE, Iowa - Matt Scheckel, 88, 16234 407th Ave., Bellevue, died Monday morning, Feb. 22, 1999, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kingery Funeral Home, Bellevue, where there will be a scripture service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Mr. Scheckel and his wife farmed all their lives in the Springbrook area.

He was born on May 22, 1910, in Springbrook, son of Matt and Catherine (Monner) Scheckel. He married Leona Weis on May 2, 1933, in Springbrook.

Surviving are his wife, Leona; three daughters, Beulah (Vernon) Kramer, of Naples, Fla., Anita (Vincent) Schmidt, of Bellevue, and Nora (Joe) Conner, of Richmond, Calif.; a son, Myrl, of Bellevue; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Claudine Kiehold, of Onalaska, Wis., and Daisy Clasen, of La Motte; and two brothers, Leroy and Florian Scheckel, both of Springbrook.
