BELLEVUE, Iowa -- Garland L. Reed, 97, of Bellevue, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at her daughter's home in Bellevue, surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at First Presbyterian Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Bellevue. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

She was born on June 5, 1913, in Maquoketa, daughter of Elmer and Blanche (Hartman) Gaylor. She married Carlton Reed on June 30, 1935, in Bellevue; he preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1983.

Garland was a country school teacher in the 1930s in Green Island and St. Donatus. After she married Carlton, she stayed home to help on the farm and raise their four children. She later worked in the kitchen for Bellevue Community School.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and various church groups. Family and church were extremely important to her.

Garland loved to bake and shared her baked goods with many. She was a very caring, helpful, organized and loving person who had a powerful influence on her family. She spent a lot of time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took a great interest in their lives.

Those left to honor her memory are her daughter, Barb (Jim) Keil, of Bellevue; three sons, Ross Reed and Max (Mary) Reed, both of Bellevue, and Gordon (Marie) Reed, of Springbrook; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Felderman; and two sisters in-law, Ardis Gaylor and Gertrude Gaylor.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Ellen Griebel; a grandson, Philip Reed; a great-grandson, Kyle Reed; and six brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Jackson County.
